$100 million over five years to create Grant for the Web, a collaboration with Creative Commons and the Mozilla Foundation that will make grants to support alternative online business models that benefit the public good. Coil is a tech startup that operates a blogging platform where writers are paid in cryptocurrency.
Salesforce
$18.2 million to the San Francisco and Oakland school districts to expand educational opportunities for students, teachers, and administrators in California’s Bay Area. San Francisco Unified School District received $8.5 million, Oakland Unified School District was awarded $8.7 million, and $500,000 each went to the education nonprofit groups CORE and Blueprint Schools Network.
Michael J. Fox Foundation
$5 million to three international research teams to bolster genetic research and treatments for Parkinson’s disease in Africa, East Asia, and India.
Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation
$4 million to the Interlochen Center for the Arts to build a new facility that will add waterfront housing for students, faculty, and visiting artists.
